i am in jakarta now with not a lot to do so i decided to go back and visit DeathToPuberty's purevolume account and to my surprise a lot has changed since i logged in there... so i uploaded some songs and i tried to modify the layout and update the text and stuff and it seems to me that it still somewhat cool especially for indie acts that have little to put out their stuff...

so if you ask me if whether or not purevolume.com is still relevant the only answer that i could give you is i don't know, but still why not use it after all its all about getting your music to a wider music so why not?

DeathToPuberty split with Oblong

Forgive me for being too self indulgent on this one...

DeathToPuberty started a few years back as a solo project which in time grew into a collaboration between myself, Cristina Derillo (of mEdCs and Restless Senseless) and Reginald Unigo.

Back then it is a form of escape from being tired of playing routine punk rock songs that has been the music of PayItForward which was my band at the time, and what came of the songs of DeathToPuberty were my compositions that are not really in tuned with the punk rock sound that the rest of the band was looking for...

So what I did was I continued to write songs in an acoustic guitar and eventually was able to record a number of songs in lo-fi using either my busted up tape deck, a micro-cassette recorder or my old school mp3 player in my room. Most of them are pretty messed up, fortunately there are some worth listening to... and they ended up in this split that was conceptualized during the early part of this year where I pitched it to Mark Dela Cruz of Oblong in Myspace eventually we were able to gather our materials and was able to come up with this split which we hope would give you a lo-fi encounter with our music back when we were still in our technological dark ages before digital recordings and such has made the creation of independent music more accessible than it was before... enjoy...

if there's anyone out there that's following this blog you'll notice that there's no longer any new content here. the reason being is that i've migrated the band's site to a new place which is here
while this site now serves as a blog for the band among the changes that i've put up with the band is that there are now a number of songs recorded including a remix from Spazzkid which is cool also there's a compilation coming up and we're included along with other bands like PayItForward, All Wound Up, Ginseng, Spazzkid, Oblong among others so keep posted.

DeathToPuberty & Live Earth

I suppose this day would in a sense live in ‘infamy’ because it will no longer be remembered merely as a point in time where the day, month and year fell into place to form a perfect date which turns out into a 777. But more importantly because it serves as a culmination of a long road towards the attainment of a long standing campaign for us humans to own up to our responsibility on the issue of human induced climate change.

Heralded by the An Inconvenient Truth an Academy Award-winning documentary film about climate change, specifically global warming, presented by former United States Vice President Al Gore and directed by Davis Guggenheim.

Shortly followed by Live Earth which was a series of worldwide concerts held on July 7, 2007 designed to raise awareness about man-made climate change and advocate environmentally friendly living. The concerts brought together more than 150 musical acts in eleven locations around the world and was broadcast to a mass global audience through radio, television, and the internet.

Keeping all that in mind it is also with pride and joy that DeathToPuberty was there to join the ranks of artists and musicians who’ve jumped the bandwagon of an enlightened view concerning climate change.

It was an honor to perform on the same stage with Noel Cabangon, Cynthia Alexander, Jeff Pagaduan and Joey Ayala, in the spirit of solidarity in order to sound the alarm on governments to opt for an uptake in renewable energy but also to celebrate on the inspiring fact that individuals can also do their part, by pledging to become wiser in their consumption of energy.

Only the coming days would tell us if a true and genuine sense of urgency was raised by the Live Earth concert. By now most of you have already read about other likeminded articles pertaining to the Live Earth concerts or of climate change.

But it is only insurmountable if the inspiring feeling that we all had during that day of art and music would be translated into actions that would be our individual contribution to the global movement that’s dedicated to combating the climate threat.

most of you people know that DeathToPuberty recently had its first gig thanks to Slumber Army Productions. Anyways Chuck would like to extend his heartfel gratitude to everyone who watched. basically it is a music portal dedicated solely to the development and exposure of indie and unsigned artists. and i was able to come accross it last monday and it has a lot of cool features that's not available in pure volume well anyways i signed up for an account in it and basicaly the following day i got sort of fan mails from a lot of folks and subscription to the mailing list in the site which is quite cool and to date the songs there have been played for 425 times which is more than twice of the plays that i already got from pure volume for a few months now. and just this morning when i checked DeathToPuberty is now the #1 band in the emo-indie rock genre

And on the overall standing of songs in their charts the cover of The Cure's A Letter to Elise is
is pegged at #3 while on #4 is my cover of Seona Dancing's More to Lose.

Over all its simply amazing.

it has really been quite a while now since i've started doing anything about this project i've been locked into a maze of deadlines and stuff that ought to be completed on a given sched that i've no longer had the time as well as the energy to pursue DeathToPuberty hopefully this would be resolved in no time i've already been arranging to have jeanie's sister tina to help me out as a second member of DeathToPuberty so that the musical part would no longer be as troublesome as it is at present. hopefully if time is a luxury i'll set up a section for her on this site.

death to puberty is about the feeling of what it’s like when you're hearing the sound of tears as it rolls down your cheeks, pouring with it all the pains of that reality has brought upon you.

it is the twisted combination of moans and drastic guitar playing. it is an influence of emotion and the sound of billy brag, elvis costello, rocky votolato, dashboard confessional, bright eyes and the likes.

it is dull and yet personal. it does not compromise to please one's ear nor does it aspire to be recognized as something that is great. it is a therapeutic venture.

but what started out as a personal escape from the shadow of PayItForward in a way has seemingly evolved into a collective collaboration between chuck baclagon, christina derillo and reginald unigo so as to form a more cohesive sound to the resonating noise of DeathToPuberty.

Q. What is it?

A. It is a response. A step towards maturity and a proper closure so as to end a chapter in your life which you have outgrown but have willfully clinged on to.

Q. Is it human?

A. To some extent yes. But on the other hand no. It is in a way more than that. Since it is a collaboration of the mind, six strings and a yearning voice that wishes to pour out its heart in the form of something that would pass as music.

Q. Where does it come from?

A. From somewhere. I guess. It comes from a place that lies on the inner parts that stores up stock knowledge that seems useless and then reorganizes it into twisted lullabies.

Q. Is there any politics involved?

A. By all means no. Politics is just a bander that so-called statesmen are acquainted to. DeathToPuberty is no statesman, nor does it subscribe to traditional politics. But it does stand for certain causes and ideals. To which a lengthly discussion could be given on another venue of discussion.

Q. Are you tired?

A. Most definitely.
